Project no.5

The first official competition i joined, was this one. i tried a hand a doing up an interior space of the house, from the living room all the way to the bathroom. this helped to make me think more about the organization of interior spaces, which at that time I was severely lacking in. it was difficult to design with so many requirements to take note of, but in the end i managed to attempt to design something out.

Although i did not manage to win anything, it was a very enlightening experience, allowing me to learn more about the interior spaces and how i should take note of designing them.

Design Brief

We are tasked with Designing a home for a multi-generational family. With the house being about 3500 sq. ft, we had to take in considerations for the interests of the family and design based on that.

Husband, aged 43 is a businessman and often requires work from home. Hobbies: Playing golf.
Wife, aged 45 is a lawyer and has a large collection of books. Hobbies: Plays cello.
Son, aged 14 has allergies to dust mites. Hobbies: Videogames.
Daughter, aged 4 has a tomboy nature. Hobbies: Soccer is her favourite sport. She’s a big Liverpool fan.
Grandmother, aged 94 is in a wheelchair.

The wife likes cooking. She wants an open concept kitchen where the family can cook together and be with the kids while cooking. There is a jacuzzi in the balcony. The house electrics were on automation.

Material palette

I desided to go for a mid-century modern design, with more use of luxurious materials such as marble and granite.

i then decided on more muted and neutral colours as it would take the attention off the walls and also help to make the house a little neater.

Furniture inspirations

the furniture that i took inspiration from helped to shape the house. i mainly incorporated more multi-functional spaces, to allow for more use of furniture without taking up more space.

This will also help to benefit the minimalism that i aim to achieve, with lesser furniture being used.
